School is out..summer holiday fun is here!
July is packed with family events. The Sutherland Show on Saturday 23rd July celebrates its 50th year with main ring events featuring ’Les Amis D’Onno’ jousting team, sheep dog demonstration, terrier racing, children’s sports, Pipe Band parade and displays of tractors, land rovers, livestock and classic cars.
Royal Dornoch 400 Years of Golf celebrations sees golf legends Sandy Lyle & Paul Lawrie, with Ladies’ Champion Kelsey Macdonald play an exhibition match on Tuesday 5th July.
Our five star museum Historylinks is open daily and ‘The Story of Embo’ exhibition runs in the Social Club 4th-9th July. The annual charity tractor run on July 2nd has 78 entrants this year!
The popular Community Market runs on Wednesdays 13th & 27th July on the Cathedral Green, with 30 stalls of local produce, food, arts & crafts to browse. Saturday nights at 8pm in the Square is when you will hear the Dornoch Pipe Band perform and see a demonstration of Highland dancing. The annual book fair runs 15th-17th July, with a wide range of second hand books on sale and the chance to meet local authors.
An evening with Tendi Sherpa, 11 times Everest Summiteer, on 26th July is not to be missed. Hear about Everest Base Camp and discover how Nepal is recovering after the earthquake.
There are plenty of children’s activities too – with Puddle Jumpers “We could be Heroes” outdoor club, Go Wild Highlands pond dipping, bush craft and rock pool sessions and Highlife Highland’s Fusion event with laser tag, nerf wars, bubble football and crafts.
Various live music events, a summer barbeque & quiz night and the Dornoch Cinema showing of ‘The Danish Girl’ complete the programme. Enjoy you visit!
