Responsible Tourism

Dornoch is a beautiful place where visitors are welcome all year round, but we ask for everyone’s thoughtful co-operation to ensure the town works well for visitors and full-time residents alike.

Please follow these guidelines to make the most of your time in Dornoch.

Please enjoy our town and use our lovely independent shops and restaurants! By buying your provisions and souvenirs from our shops, you are supporting Dornoch’s economy, and that of the fragile northern Highlands.

Parking can be a big issue in Dornoch, especially during the busy Summer months, when excessive on-street parking can block road access and make things difficult for older people, children and people with disabilities. Whenever possible, please leave your car in one of our large car parks, which are clearly signposted, and just a short walk from the shops.

Motorhomes, please park at one of the Caravan Parks in or close to Dornoch which have all the services you require to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Overnight parking is not permitted at the Beach car parks.

Please avoid staying overnight in Dornoch in locations that are not designated for this purpose, for example parking outside businesses or homes.

If you are visiting Dornoch during the day, there is parking designed specifically for your motorhome/campervan/caravan. Please follow the signs to a Car Park (there are two off Meadows Road).

Waste disposal is available at Dornoch Caravan Park for non-residents for a small fee.

For camping in tents, there are a number of great campsites around Dornoch (see above).

If you choose to camp outside of these sites, please ensure you read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, before you set up camp, and then follow it’s guidelines, to ensure you have a minimal impact on the environment – and “leave no trace” Outdoor Access Code.

Thank you so much! We hope you have a great stay.
