Dornoch Point
Suitable for: Older children and dogs (on lead in bird breeding season)
Starting point: Cathedral Green
An excellent coastal walk with good opportunities to spot seabirds and seals. From the Point there are fantastic views westwards up the Dornoch Firth towards the Kyle of Sutherland and the mountains beyond. Care needs to be taken whilst at the Point to ensure you are not cut off by incoming tides (check tide times at Tideschart.com.
From the Cathedral, head towards the medical centre on Shore Road, and continue on past the Scottish Water works on your left and along the single track road leading through the Struie golf course to the end of the airfield.
Follow this road around to the left and take one of the paths on the right through the dunes down to the water’s edge. Ensuring the tide is out, walk across the sand flats, keeping to the left until you reach the dry sand at the point itself. You can now follow the beach right around until you join the south end of Dornoch Beach. About 1.5km north of the point, cut into the dunes and follow the paths up and over to reach the east end of the airfield. You can now follow this back to the start, or walk towards the hanger building and head back to town past the caravan park.
For a shorter walk drive to the Airfield before setting out.
