Cromarty is an especially pretty village on the Black Isle. It has impressive 18th century merchants houses on its narrow streets and winding lanes, as well as a hotel, the award-winning Sutors Creek restaurant (fabulous pizzas) and a few characterful shops.
Between May and September, it is easily accessible from Dornoch via the small Cromarty-Nigg two car ferry, which takes foot passengers and cyclists too. Park at the Nigg ferry car park and go over on foot for the day.
Hugh Miller’s Cottage, owned by the National Trust for Scotland is open to the public and celebrates the life of the famous 18th centry geologist. The Court House Museum is an interesting and fun place to visit. There is a market on the second Saturday of each month and there are often arts and musical events to enjoy. The village also boasts its own 35-seat cinema!
