Tucked away behind the Dornoch Castle Hotel, is a very special Dornoch gem! Historylinks, Dornoch’s very own 5 star museum. It is dedicated to the history of Dornoch parish and you can learn about Golf, Carnegie, Skibo Castle and the impact of the Picts and the Vikings. There are also films available to watch including one about Sutherland in the 1950s. An ideal place to visit with or without children, but if you do have children in tow, there are puzzles, quizzes and dressing up for them to get involved in – and entry is free for accompanied children.
This year’s summer exhibition is about Miss Lyon – a most interesting Dornoch resident.
Love walking? Looking for a summer time activity? Check out the Historylinks Walks taking place this Summer every Tuesday at 2pm led by the curator Lynne Mahoney. See their website to book your place (adults £5, accompanied children free).
Dornoch is rich in history and a very good introduction is to follow the Historylinks Trail, available from Historylinks Museum. This walking tour starts and ends at the museum and takes in many interesting sites.
Enjoy your visit!
