If you like exploring the beaches of the Highlands, why not try some fossil hunting in Golspie!
Golspie is most famous for it’s fairytale castle, Dunrobin. However there are treasures hiding in Jurassic rock on the foreshore below the castle, just waiting to be discovered by fossil hunters.
With careful hunting, you should be able to locate a range of specimens from the Jurassic era at the base of the low cliff. However the find frequency is relatively low so it is not permitted to take specimens out of the cliff and away from the beach. It is ok however to remove fossils from the loose rocks around the base of the cliffs.
If fossils elude you, then there is plenty more to explore along this stretch of shoreline. Spot wildlife such as Otters, Red Kites and Ospreys. Collect beautiful shells, explore rockpools and walk a fantastic shoreline which takes you all the way to Brora.
Enjoy your time exploring the beaches of Golspie and Dunrobin. Make sure you take a look at our ‘Ten Things’ blog posts for some more ideas of places near by to discover when you are exploring Dornoch.
