The winners of the prestigious Royal Dornoch Tartan Challenge were announced at Fibre Fest on 11th March. The competition – part of the club’s 400 years of golf celebrations – opened in January and attracted 50 entrants, from as far afield as Kent. The wide variety of products designed for the competition has been outstanding, say the judges.
The winner is Sandra Ian of Inverness, with a Royal Dornoch commemorative cushion. The two runners-up are Amy Britton of Stirling (but originally from Dornoch) with a Royal Dornoch tartan tee wallet and Willie Bain of Wick, with a Royal Dornoch Club trophy and stand.
The judging panel was led by Kirsty Scott of Weave Consult, a textiles’ specialist who worked with Royal Dornoch to develop their tartan product range. Kirsty said: “The level of entrants has been exceptionally high and it was a hard decision to choose the winners. They were chosen based on their high standard of design and execution, the defining way they used the tartan and the clear reflection of the golf club within their piece. Several products would also make excellent additions to the Royal Dornoch Tartan range and we look forward to exploring that further.
