Bookings are now open for Dornoch Fibre Fest 2023, which takes place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March. Come and get involved in Dornoch’s much loved annual event for all things fibre; sewing, felting, spinning, knitting, dyeing and much much more!
The weekend launches with a talk by Annette Clunas on ‘The History of Fair Isle Knitting’ on Friday 10 March at 7pm in St Finnbarr’s Church. Also on Friday is the annual meeting of the Shetland Sheep Society runs from 9.30am until 4pm with a talk at 10am and lunch provided. See the website for more details.
Throughout the weekend there are Masterclasses and Learning Techniques, classes you can book onto ahead of time. This year they include Needle Felting, Acid Dying, Drop Spindle and Fair Isle Knitting. If you want to pay on-line follow the link on the individual page (e.g. Masterclass Fabric Acid Dyeing) and scroll to the bottom of the page to ‘Add to Cart’. Alternatively, you can print off the Dornoch Fibre Fest Order form, to complete and post with your cheque.
Dornoch Fibre Fest classes are held in 3 venues in the town – the Community Centre, the Dornoch Hub and the West Church Hall. There are also sales tables where you can find a lovely selection craft supplies in the Community Centre and the West Church Hall.
On Sunday you can see an exhibition and demonstration by internationally renowned tapestry artist, Joan Baxter. On both days over the weekend there are spinning demonstrations by the Highland Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers in the Dornoch Hub.
This year’s competition theme is a handcrafted fibre doorstop. Any material can be used though they do ask for entrants to be mindful of sustainability. Entries must be handed into the West Church Hall by 11am on Saturday 11 March.
