Dreaming Of Winter

Dornoch is an especially magical place in the Wintertime!

Christmas Shopping
Avoid the crowds of the city and the impersonal feel of an online Christmas shop and head to explore our independent shops. Not only will you find unique gifts, you will also be supporting local businesses. Why not make a day of it? Blow off the cobwebs on the beach and stop shopping for lunch in one of our cafes or restaurants.

Northern Lights
Every year we get a few sightings in Dornoch and they are often even more visible further North in Caithness, so you can stay in Dornoch and then go hunting for the ‘Merrie Dancers’ further afield.

Snow
Although Dornoch doesn’t get as much snow as the rest of the Highlands (due to it’s coastal location) we do still get some snow every year and plenty of frosty, sparkling mornings which will put you in the Christmas spirit! When it is frosty with bright blue skies, Dornoch Beach is extra stunning. So make sure you get a good long walk in whilst you are here.

Hogmanay Celebrations
Dornoch is famous for it’s Hogmanay street party and celebrations in the town for the few days surrounding New Year. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions we are unable to host the street party again this year, but there are still lots of ways you can enjoy a truly Scottish Hogmanay experience in Dornoch. Food and drink at some of Dornoch’s fantastic restaurants and cafes, long blustery beach walks, a Hogmanay Ceilidh at The Courtroom on the 31st and of course, don’t miss the most Scottish of New Year traditions-  the Loony Dook on the 1st !

See the December What’s on in Dornoch calender for ideas of what to get up to during your break this month.
