Celebrating 400 Years of Golf – June events

In 2016 Dornoch celebrates 400 years of Golf by holding different events throughout the year. This month’s focus is on Sports & Exercise, so why not try something new. Choose from fishing, golf, clay pigeon shooting, guided walks, squash, bowling, cycling, horse riding, fun run, ceilidh, geocaching, and a beach treasure hunt. After a gap of 22 years, the Northern Open returns to Royal Dornoch, currently rated the #1 course in Scotland.  Spectators are welcome at this event running 21-24 June.

Overview of events/opportunities throughout June

PGA Northern Open @ Royal Dornoch
Tuesday 21 & Wednesday 22 tee off 8 am – 12 noon. Thursday 23 & Friday 24 tee off 8:30 am – 11 am. Spectators welcome. Entry free.

Bowling
Enjoy a game of bowls whilst on holiday. Everyone is welcome. Club session on Tuesday at 7 pm, fun afternoon Thursdays at 2 pm. £4 for a day ticket from Golf Club Pro Shop

Cycle Hire
Explore our quiet roads and forest tracks. Bike hire from Sam’s Bike Shed or Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame

Horse Riding
Saturday & Sunday from 11 June onwards (weather dependant) 12 noon until 3:30 pm, S & J Fun Equestrian pony rides in Embo (next to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame)

Fun Run
Sunday 12 June – 12 noon, Langwell Gardens, Berridale. 5k and 10k Fun Run/Walk. Register on the day from 10:45 am. Entry for 5k – £6 (£3 for 12 & under with adult) and for 10k – £10 (£5 for under 16). Contact: Sue Steve  01593 751 245

Ceilidh
Fisherfolk Festival, Seaboard Memorial Hall, Balintore, Saturday 25 June 9:30 pm. Music from ‘Whisky Kiss’ – entry £10 per person

Geocaching
Follow the Carnegie Story Geocaching Trail through Ledmore & Migdale Woods. Seven chapters are hidden in secret sports along the one and a half mile route. Can you find them all?

Beach Treasure Hunt
Entertain the children for an hour or so with this charming treasure hunt. Pick up the booklet for the beach hut at the car park. Illustrated by local artist Sally Wild. Answers at Historylinks Museum!
